Who says these things? 1,000 kids who go to Camp Barney Medintz each summer. And who are these kids? We'll tell you! Camp Barney Medintz campers are:
50% boys, 50% girls 65% come from metro Atlanta; 30% come from cities like New Orleans, Birmingham, Nashville, Charlotte, Savannah, Macon, Charleston, Raleigh, Miami, Orlando and the Tampa Bay area. And, about 5% come from Texas, California, Nevada, Oregon, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia and about 100 other communities around North America!
Ages 8 through 16 years old. About 83% who have been to Camp Barney before. About 50% who have a parent or relative who used to go to Camp Barney. About 50% who have a brother or sister who goes to Camp Barney.
Favorite Activities? That usually depends on who you ask and how long they've been going to Camp Barney! Usually turning up on someone's list is: water-skiing, tubing or knee boarding, riding on the big banana, the "Blob," the Double Slides, the 700 ft.Zip Line, The Iceberg, being in a theater production, making a crafts project, archery, horseback riding, mountain biking, being in a tennis tournament, something in the Halpern Center (gymnasium and amphitheater), ultimate frisbee, the rock climbing wall, the ropes courses, the Bog, their Apply (Appalachian Trail backpacking trip), 6-day (JIT) trip white-water rafting down the Ocoee River, caving, (also for JITs) skiing at Lake Lanier, singing and dancing in the dining hall, and every moment of Shabbat.
Other favorites most often heard? "Having counselors who really talk to you…and listen to you, milk & cookies nd bedtime, color war, "most" of the food, sitting in a "Crazy Creek" chair while being around the fire at a campout, getting mail, being around so many other Jewish kids, knowing people are there if I'm homesick, dances, flashlight privileges, slide shows with great music, sailing "with wind!," anything with the Chalutzim kids (special needs campers), making new friends, knowing there's always stuff to do, being in Shabbat services, anything in the Sukkah on Lake Wendy, getting to go for four weeks, the staff from Israel and other countries, the cool stuff we'll do "next" summer, being "away" with friends, the people……the place! "
