New Camp Barney Medintz Executive Director

I am beyond excited to share with you that our beloved Camp Barney Medintz has a new director. After an extensive nationwide search and considering multiple candidates, the search committee and I knew we’d found the ideal person, leader, mentor, professional, and coach to join our Camp Barney Medintz community.

I am thrilled to welcome Danny Herz as the next Executive Director of Camp Barney Medintz.

Danny is currently the Executive Director of URJ’s 6 Points Sports Academy, 6 Points Creative Arts Academy, and 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy, and has been an integral part of that organization for more than 13 years. Danny also has a 15+ year career in education, having served on the senior administrative team at Jewish schools in Southern California and South Florida. He’s held the roles of teacher, coach, dean of students, and athletic director.

A featured public speaker at camp conferences, Danny has delivered the keynote address at the JCAMP 180 conference, The American Camp Association Conference, The Foundation for Jewish Camp Leaders Assembly, and JumpSpark events to name a few.

Danny has been involved with Jewish sports for more than 20 years, starting with coaching at the JCC Maccabi Games. His basketball coaching career includes being the first coach in Broward County, Florida to coach a McDonald’s All-American and having more than 20 of his former student athletes continue their educational pursuits while playing NCAA basketball.

Born in South Africa, Danny has lived in the USA since the late 1980s. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida (can’t help myself, Go Gators!), and a Master’s degree from Ohio University. Danny is a certified camp director by the American Camp Association (ACA) and a certified athletic administrator (CAA) by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

Danny is an inspirational leader who has shaped the lives of thousands of campers, staff, students, and athletes. We look forward to him continuing that level of impact with our Camp Barney Medintz campers and staff members.

Now that I’ve told you a little about Danny, I’m excited for you to meet him and get to know him! He’s shared a message for all of you which you can view below. We are planning several events, both in person and virtual, and hope to share the details in early December. We anticipate the events beginning in late January and continuing up until the start of camp.

Danny’s first official day will be Tuesday, January 3, 2023. What a perfect way for Camp Barney Medintz to start the new year – by welcoming our next Executive Director.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the Camp Barney Medintz search committee and to Sarah Raful Whinston from DRG.
